Here's the deal, I was at the grocery store and this "kid" asked me to cash his check for him. Just go to the ATM, deposit his check, and then give him cash. Everything looked legit, and he told me a sob story about how he was 17 (later found it wasn't true) and his parents wouldn't let him have a bank account, so I thought about just doing something nice.
Turns out, while I wasn't looking, he switched the deposit envelopes, and deposited a blank envelope into the ATM.
I went to the police station the next day. Couple weeks later, I picked him out of a photo array. I also found out that he did the same thing to some other guy two days later, and the cops are looking to charge him with both. He's actually popped in a few different towns throughout, and he's stolen enough from enough people that they're currently looking to up it to a felony with the amount stolen and come after him with that.
They're having a little trouble locating him at the moment, his parents' claim they don't know where he is, but he's been popping up, so there's a consensus feeling that he'll be found soon enough.
