I have a family member and she has spent roughly $36,000 on lottery scams, Moneygram scams. She has been told by these numerous people that she will get a check or Visa card for total of 188 million dollars. She just sent a Moneygram from walmart to Irene Peterson in Crossville TN for $500. Stating she will get a present tomorrow. We know this is scan but she believes these people. WE need help and we tried cutting her off on bank accounts, but she getting cash advance on Credit cards. She believes when she watches the last night high stakes poker that the gentlemen is calling her on their breaks and enjoying her to come to Vegas to play poker and send them more money.
It is very frustating on our behalf. She has 4 huge trash bags at home with all these sweepstakes letters that she has won money but she needs to pay the money upfront to get the money processed. She sent a wire for 5 grand last week for paying taxes on a money that she hasn't received yet.

We have reported all the people to the right locations but help. What can we do??

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. Have you showed her websites like ours? Have you run a google search on the name of the person or company she is in contact with . . . sometimes that will bring you to a post by someone else that they were scammed and that can open someone's eyes.

We have shown her all the website that states this is scam and states do not send money to them. She tells us that bunch of bull and we are trying to keep her from getting rich. She is trying to get a divorce from her husband that she has been married to for 45 years and go marry the guy whom she is sending money too. I can't believe the things they feed her.
We have googled the names of the people she is sending the money too and they post as deceased online.
Our last option is to admit her to some place where she can get help and monitor her behavior because these people ruin her marriage. This puts a huge family strain on us. No one wants to go that far to admit her to place. But she is threatening to run off and marry these guys.. It is scary.

It sounds like you need an intervention. I know that some people look at this like a gambeling addiction . . . you put tons of money in because you keep hoping for a big payout. I wonder if there is a place that would be willing to assist you with an intervention like that.

The only other thing I can think of doing is if you can get into her email account and try to monitor and block incoming emails from this person.

We called Walmart corporation and talked them about not accepting no more money wires from her and they stated they will post a notice on all their systems stating transaction can't be performed. We are working on getting Western Union to do the same thing. She has been living with me and my husband since Sunday. Since she has been in our household she has tried to borrow money from everyone and she has wired approx 2500 overseas to Jamica. It is so frustating. We have tried to disable her cell phone where some of her calls goes to our phone but she figured that out. But someone has to watch over her during the day to make sure she is alright. The stress it puts on us is unreal and these people keep asking for more money.
It is sad that she believes them that the more money she sends in she will win more money. Some nights she will go through 100 checks to send these people for contest fees. Tonight she ran out of money and has no charge cards.
I really do hate people who scam innocent people and ones that work so hard to make a decent retirement.

That is good that you are trying to work with the businesses involved to block her from being able to use their services. It would be nice if they could "pretend" to send the money, so she thinks it is going through, but they really route the money back into an account that you control.

Let me know if you need any names of people within those companies to try and contact . . . I know I have a few names and contact info.

I understand the frustration. It would be nice if the companies, or the government, could do something to address the issue of these scams to help in situations like this.

If you think it would help for me to speak with her, I could try that also.

I really do appreciate your help and advice in this matter. It is sad about the damage that has been done to our family. Hopefully something will be done about stopping or ending all these nasty scams.

My family member who been scammed severly by these people. Is improving slowly and the scammers are not calling as much since they figured out that she is broke and doesn't have access to any more money. Well now they are calling her husband who is at home and stating to him, "It his lucky day and he won 20 million in london Lottery and to access this money please send 699 for transfer fees." Well he informed them where they could stick that money at. Atleast he has some common sense versus the other family member.

Here are the phone numbers that I obtain from my family member who calls her mostly every night or several times a day. They keep nagging her or try to get more money from her. Informing her that they her charge card number, exp date, and vcode to finish loading money on her card. Well they can't load no money only charge her fees.

Her cell phone bill is up and over 3500 for calling overseas and she doesn't seem to understand that calling Jamica is consider roaming. I am surprised ATT has not shut off her phone yet. *We disconnected our home phone when she moved in and we didn't want them to be calling us or her calling them* She believes in her mind that she can call anywhere without costing extra since she has plenty of minutes. We tried explaining to her that any over seasees calls are very expensive. She believes this guy will pay for her bill.

876-841-6212 or 876-884-1712 are two phones that we obtain from here that are responsible for all this crap. They are from Jamica. Do you know any good websites that we can get more information about who these people are. They call roughly every other night tell her that she needs to file for divorce, so she can get a money settlement. But in our state you can't divorce a mental ill person. The phone number that gave her claims to be bank that holds this 18 million dollars but this is just a computer programed number. Phone number for bank is 909-740-8919 and google this number and you see all the complaints regarding this number and other people who got scammed.

Can you block these numbers from her phone? Then she will not even get the calls.
