our evil coup dictator did the bait and switch! there is no refund coming to the poor families! he signed a different bill than the one he said he was going to sign and only gave the rich and corporations a tax break. i didn't realise so many people still believe they are getting one. how sad and frustrating. so many people don't yet know what he did. no wonder he keeps getting away with his crap!

So did he veto the one that he said he would sign, or did it never get to him?

it got to him. he switched it and signed something else instead. he just said that's what he was signing. isn't that terrible?

he had two prepared: the one he signed, and the one he told us he was signing. so he "read" the one the poor needed to hear, and switched it with the one for the rich and that was what he signed for the cameras.

I know there were different versions of the tax relief bill floating around, but the scenario that you describe is one that I've not heard. Do you know where I can find an article that describes these events? I'm not tryign to start a political debate, I just like to check sources.

Thanks for the article. It actually didn't tell me anything that the other news outlets missed. But it did miss a key point about the $400.00 tax credit for the working poor. Plain and simple- it wasn't a tax credit at all, but a handout disguised as a tax credit ('refundable credit' was the term used by the creators of this ridiculous amdnement.) See, this 'credit' wasn't a credit, because it did not reduce the tax liability of the would-be recipients. The tax liability of the working poor is already $0.00, so there was nothing to credit. It would have been a welfare check, period. I will use an analogy to illustrate how this works:
Suppose you own a grocery store, and you want to give a little back to the community that has helped your business prosper over the years. You come up with three options:
1) Give discounts on all checkout totals over a certain threshold, thus rewarding your biggest spenders.
2) Cut prices on all items, benefitting every shopper.
3) Send out checks to everyone in the zip code, even if they've never shopped at your store.
You were baited, but not by the president. The congressfolk who decided to add option #3 to the tax bill were the ones who threw you the bait.

I know this board was not designed for political debate, but I could not let the bit about the 'evil coup dictator' and his 'bait and switch' sit unchallenged. For disclaimer purposes, I feel I should tell you a few things about myself:
1) I am not a republican
2) I did not vote for W
3) I am not expecting a $400.00 check this summer, but I would have gotten one under the proposed plan.
