**WARNING** **WARNING** **WARNING** **WARNING**

I got caught up in a scam on Craigslist in April and as a result lost $2,500. I’ve posted warnings before and have received lots of emails from people in the same position. For the past few weeks I’ve been sifting through the ads on Craigslist and expatriates.com and have come across a lot of scams, mostly originating in the UK and Nigeria.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!!

- Never ever pay someone via Western Union or other wire transfer service
- Trace the IP address and find out where the emails are originating. In your email program select "Show Full Headers", "Display Long Headers" or something similar. Select the IP address (it will look something like 90.208.149.203 and sits at the bottom of the header next to “Received from”) and do a search on http://www.domaintools.com
- Be very wary of Gmail – it doesn’t show the IP address so these emails are impossible to track.
- Always ask a heap of questions
- Only deal with people locally if possible

DON’T DEAL WITH THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE:

ÿ Ann Clare Collings (this is the person who scammed me, she also goes under the name of Tara Collings, Clare Collings and is linked to Hilton Kurth too)
ÿ Tara Collings
ÿ Clare Collings
ÿ Hilton Kurth
ÿ Sandra Roland
ÿ Edouardo Martel
ÿ Mr. Smith Rolland
ÿ Sarah Doyle
ÿ Sarah Hansen
ÿ Chelsea Bluessports
ÿ Jean Loux
ÿ Herrerias Stephanis
ÿ Mary Arteda
ÿ Alexandra Martine
ÿ Chloe Hourde
ÿ Anna Liffey
ÿ Diette Clemence
ÿ Nedved Henrick
ÿ Laurie Paucot
ÿ Diana Williams
ÿ Marie Millecamps
ÿ Laurent Bizet
ÿ Williams Harry

They use the following email addresses:

ÿ acli_paris@yahoo.com
ÿ cc_llings@yahoo.com
ÿ hous-674055452@craigslist.org
ÿ clare_colli88@yahoo.com
ÿ bibanke000@yahoo.com
ÿ alex_88_001@yahoo.com
ÿ sarrah_hansen_555@yahoo.com
ÿ herr_step88@yahoo.com
ÿ mm_2_sm@hotmail.com
ÿ louxjean@yahoo.com
ÿ dianawilliams66@yahoo.com
ÿ paristrocadero@gmail.com
ÿ webloveletters@gmail.com
ÿ viproomchampselysees@gmail.com
ÿ parisurmode@gmail.com
ÿ arsenalport@gmail.com
ÿ paris_flat_venge@yahoo.fr
ÿ w_harry112@gmail.com
ÿ hilkurt_ryte@yahoo.com

LOOK OUT for ads posted using viproomchampselysees@gmail.com, parisurmode@gmail.com, arsenalport@gmail.com, paristrocadero@gmail.com and webloveletters@gmail.com….this person posts virtually identical ads under these email addresses every couple of days.

I have been trying to post warnings on Craigslist every couple of days but it seems that they are now blocking me. Craigslist is certainly one of the most corrupt websites I have ever been on. Craigslist refuses to post any warnings if the posting has "warning", "beware", "scams", "fraud", "alert" etc in the heading. I have to pretend to be offering a fantastic apartment and hope that people click on it to get my warning. LUDICROUS!!! Plus the scammers are now flagging my warnings and getting them taken down.

First I would like to say I am sorry that you got scammed. Secondly, thank you for working so hard on getting these scams taken off of craigslist and for posting the incredible amount of information that you have done as it will help alert others that these people are scammers.

We really need to get something in the media about the fact that so many scammers are on Craigslist

Craigslist does have a warning page, but if you ask me it does not really stand out

Thanks for your message. No problem at all! I'm glad that the message is slowly getting out there. I'm trying to post my warnings on as many websites as possible, so please if you know any other sites that are similar to this one, please let me know, otherwise feel free to copy/paste my posting and put it up wherever!! I'm desperate for this message to get out.
.........................
As for the warnings on Craigslist - yeah I saw them after the fact! It doesn't stand out at all...they really need to put it in red or make it appear on every page or something. It's big enough to cover them legally but small enough so no one sees it. Craigslist has astounded me with the way they operate, like Western Union, they seem to facilitate fraud. They give you the option of flagging scams but only one flag per person per post is registered. So it's virtually impossible to get anything pulled down unless you are working in a big group like the scammers who are pulling mine down! INFURIATING!

My next step in terms of notifying the media is to write to the national papers here in Australia as well as a commuter newspaper which reaches 300,000 people a day. I've also written to two TV national current affairs shows explaining the story and I'm waiting to hear back.

 Beware EVERYONE!!!!

These people are also on career builders. I posted my resume on career builders and along with the "JOBS RECOMMENDED TO YOU" there was an offer for Mystery Shop, I replyed, did not think much of it first, then they contacted me later.

Well, from there you all know the how it went. Usually I am a cautious person, but I was laid off off, and like everybody else, I was looking for extra cash.

Now I don't have a job and I have $3500.00 debt that I had to pay.

Some of you are the lucky ones! Some of us, just trusting peolpe!

I just wish I could land my hands on them!

It is unfair to post "NEVER USE CRAIGSLIST". I have twice had good results renting rooms and Craigs List posts a long list of cautions against fraud and here's the very first one:

DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON - follow this one simple rule and you will avoid 99% of the scam attempts on craigslist.

At the end of the long list of cautions, they even list several examples of scam emails. If one person scammed you, shame on them - if 2 or more, shame on YOU!

Blind faith is not a virtue - it's ok to trust, but verify!

Typical response to an item you may be selling- this response smells bad-

Hello,
Thanks for the swift reply. I am still interested in buying, I am
satisfied with the conditions because i read thru the AD..I will make
my payments with a bank certified check..I will be responsible for the
pick up when check clears. please get back to me with the following
informations so that the payment can be endorsed:

Name to be on the check.
Address to mail the payment to.
Phone number both land and mobile.

After the information is been supplied,I will give you an update on
the payment.. I will be highly grateful if you can withdraw the ad
from craigslist and make me your favourite buyer.
Thanks You!!

O my gosh, had i seen this site before hand,i would be 3000. richer, i was looking at buy a used car, i seen an add posted on craiglist, along with pic. it was a local deal. I should of seen the red flags now that i think about it! test drove the car, told guy i was looking at a couple more cars, that i would get back with, him! (red flag) he was calling me (red flag-phone number wasn't a local number) the very next day asking me if i was interested in the car he would drop price down, if i had cash (red flag). well to make a long story short, i took this car to tag it and, wouldn't you know it, it was a stole car. out 3000. dollars and NO CAR. So ladies be very careful when dealing in cash. i am slowing regaining my pride, but not all was lost to scum bag, i do have a little left over to get me around town. i was more worried about getting arrest for driving a stolen car. i haven't told my family and friends about what happened, other than i gave the car back, and i am still looking for another one. LIVE BY MY STUPID MISTAKE, and keep going. thanks for this forum, at least i know I AM NOT ALONE!

I do a large amount of posting on Craigslist and there is only one thing you need to know to avoid problems... PHONE NUMBERS! Scammers never give phone numbers; if you ask for a phone number, you will never hear from the scammers again or they will give a lengthy explanation of why they can't and then you know! I put on each ad that emails without phone numbers will not be answered.

another tip . . . deal locally when using Craigslist

if you are selling something and they cannot come and pick it up because they are not local, don't do it

if you are renting a space and they cannot come to see it because they are not local, don't do it
