I was scammed a couple of weeks back by a couple who pretended not to know each other when in fact they did. She claimed she had funds to give away to charity and said she'd give us each a certain amount of money (to give to charity) if we showed in good faith that we had our own money and we would not keep the "charity" money she was to give us. She also claimed she'd give each of us some money for doing this. The man first showed he had his own money by going to the nearby bank. He came back and she placed his money in a bandanna with the charity money for him to go back and deposit it in his bank for safe keeping. I was to do the same. Before I knew it they both drove of with the good faith money I showed I had and left me standing there with a bandanna and a wad of rolled up newspaper.
The most disgusting thing about it is that she pretended someone she knew was a 911 victim and pretended to be a victim herself of false terrorist accusations of her government (she claimed she was from an African country). I knew someone close to me that was in the building when the planes crashed in it. I am also disgusted because I was more concerned for this woman's safety 'cause I thought the guy might take advantage because she was illegedly walking around with a bag full of money she was trying to give away.
It all sounds so damned ridiculous now and I am not even one to stop and talk to strangers 'cause I don't particularly trust anyone I don't really know, but they caught me on a day my guard was really down and I feel so embarrassed, disgusted, angry and like an idiot.
I do know that these people train themselves to be as good as they are and that they are sociopaths who are indifferent to human emotion and suffering, but it still makes me sick to think how I felt for something so obviously a fraud.
Anyway, I would appreciate any feedback and hope this story helps someone else.
