Man--that was a rigorous web site registration... was I supposed to have to do the code and the question like six times? It was worth it, though, if someone will pat me on the head and tell me I'm not a complete idiot. I posted to the car-talk section of Craig'sList about this and they roasted me
, so I'm glad to find you guys.
I never heard of this scam, but really, I should have known better. A couple of Hispanic guys in a truck stopped me at a light and said they could fix the dent in my fender easy and cheap. We stopped on the side of the road to wheel and deal. What started out to be $400 for a “professional job†quickly came down to $140. I said ok. They put a lot of GoJo (hand cleaner) on the dent (to moisturize the paint, they said; I'm a girl--I understand moisturizer), and punched the dent out from inside the trunk. They told me not to wash off the GoJo for half an hour. They couldn’t take a check, I had to go to an ATM and get cash (they took $10 off the price for my trouble).
When I got home the GoJo had slid off the fender and I could see that instead of the dent I now had a big ugly wrinkly spot. Not quite the “professional job†the guy described.
I’m a pretty smart broad--honest! I went to college and everything, but they got me.
I'm lucky it was only $130. Well, it's not the first time I've been taken, and I'm sure it won't be the last.
