Be careful on all internet dating sites. I should have been suspicious when I was contacted by 2 men on match.com that were on business in Lagos, Nigeria. I know see the websites all say if you are contacted by anyone who says they are out of the country on business (especially in Lagos, Nigeria) 100% of the time it's a scam. I was falling in love with this guy!! He said all of the right things and luckily I only lost $280 when he told me he was mugged and couldn't afford to feed his daughter and himself. What mother can resist a starving child, right? They are very smart and know this about us. If you are over 40, married or divorced, you are a target. They know you want someone. They say all the right things, recite poetry, are available to talk to you and listen. They ask how you are and seem very unselfish. I should have been suspicious when I googled his address he gave me and it was a laundromat!! That wasn't enough since the entire area in that part of CA (North Hollywood) seemed to be messed up in Google Maps. I believed him when he said he was mugged and sent him money. He said all of his resources were used to get there for this job. He said he was going to get paid 700,000 for the job but not until it was done. He said his parents died and he was raised by an Uncle in S. Africa who also died. Makes you think he has no one but you. He asked all kinds of questions to get to know me so he knew my vulnerabilities and how to get me to believe he wanted just me!! Don't fall for this!!! If it sounds too good to be true, it is!!! If you were scammed, report it to the dating site, file a complaint with http://complaint.ic3.gov.

Find out about where the email came from by going here http://www.romancescambaiter.com/ipaddress.htm

Help others by talking about it. Don't let them get away with this!!!! And if it happened to you, don't feel ashamed. These guys are experts. They know exactly what to say to push our buttons.

I RENAMED THIS SITE- MATCH.CON as a gesture in how bad it actually is; my scammer reappears about one day after i report him; after the fact its so obvious; but they isolate you very fast;and if you dont know- you just dont-you arent a criminal!
try looking at this great site called WHITECOLLARFRAUD.COM it is fascinating and you will see a lot of info there; dont feel too
bad; i am so grateful for the support here and the ability to vent ; but they hypnotize you to run to the computer and also to yahoo messenger; after a while you learn the scripts and can easily see the pattern; i just wish i knew my scammer was a real guy or was he the ghost? see the inbox for my ghost thoughts if u want; thanks all of you great people out there!! its better here than anywhere;
someone in psychology may like to mention the takeover of the mind and the control they use it is very effective; smart or not;it would be a great topic;

You said it exactly!! They hypnotize you. I was getting up at 3:00 am to talk to this jerk because of the 6 hour time difference. I wanted to talk to him in the morning and anytime during work that I could. I was falling in love with him and was imagining spending my whole life with him. I have gotten over the major hurt and think I have stopped crying about this. We all will find that one we are looking for someday!! It's going to be hard to trust someone again but it will mean I am very cautious. Any red flags will surely not be ignored. There were so many for him that I ignored because I thought I had found the love of my life. Like others have said, it helps to vent here. These guys are very well trained. The fake names and emails used were Chase Territh, territhc@yahoo.com. Also, another that I blew off was normanwills38@yahoo.com. He was also from Lagos so I could have been scammed by 2 Nigerians if I wanted to!!! I am trying to get match.com to realize how serious an issue this is. Not sure how responsive they will be but I have told them about this scam they are helping to spread.

Has anyone encountered the scammers sending you work contracts, work badges, us passports, multiple pictures of their kid with them ? How extreme do they go ? No requests for money but the phone number is so suspicious --01144702403**** . This is apparent his direct number to call him. Wife has died in a car accident, mom and dad and 2 sisters died in a separate car accident... he claims to be polish and has bad writing skills which seem better another day. Working over in the UK for 2 month contract -- shows me the contract and all the work info so that I would believe him.. Phoned my cell and the following number came up on my cell: 2348086686609.

The reason "his" writing skills seems better some days is because it is a different scammer. They work in groups.

All scammers have family who have died in a car accident.

The best thing you can do is to break all contact with "them" Do not say you know "they" are scammers. Block all of their emails.

. . . we don't want to generalize . . . some of them are dying themselves and have used the last of their strength to compose a letter to a complete stranger asking for help. 8)

just 3 weeks into communication with a Match.com contact, HARRY KNIGHT was in love with me, a one-woman man and very romantic. I was his `baby` and going to help him get back a love life since the tragic death of his wife. He was a building contractor, widow with a 15-year old son named Cody, currently working in Lagos, Nigeria. When he asked for $500 to set up an account for payment from the job, it didn`t take too long to find him on scambook.com. After doing some research on Nigerian Romance Scams, I am blown away by the industry. Note: he did not get one penny from me. DON`T GO THERE!!
