This started exactly two months ago. I had been on some dating sites, but I cannot recall which one she was on. I tried to trace back before our first emails, but I cannot find an origin.
She said she lives in Florida, gave me a legitimate Florida phone number. We talked often for weeks, she always told me about her daily activities. So convincing. Her history was that her father was an Australian business man and her mother was Malaysian. After they both died, she had some visa which allowed her to move to Florida where she started her own business with a few workers. This week she traveled back to Malaysia to collect an inheritance of 3.5 million dollars her father earned for the construction of a power plant there. Her plan was to visit me in Arizona for 5 days before returning to Florida. She gave me her Malaysian phone number to stay in contact. I would call her in the mornings and late night Malaysian time. Same as I called her Florida time. (Note 12 hour difference) For the last few days she kept me up to date about her activities, finding an apartment in Kuala Lumpur to save money and she can finally cook for herself because she was spending too much on a hotel. She has been preparing for an appointment with her lawyer to transfer the money. She told me that she did not spend much time with her father when he was alive, but she wanted him to be proud of her. Last night when we talked she asked me to write the lawyer an email. One of the fathers requirements is that she be engaged to be married, have plans for the money, Marriage, business and investments. So I sent off the email stating this is true. Next I get a call at 3am, she is meeting with the lawyer and she puts him on the phone to confirm what was in the email. Then he goes on to explain he was a personal friend of the father in the past. He would do anything for his friend and that I must take care of his friend daughter. Then he goes into Malaysian procedure how to proceed. He says three documents need to be produced according to law. 1) Affidavit of claim, 2) Insurance document, 3) Nonresidential Certificate. Total cost is $4000 USD. He asked if I was willing to pay this for her. I asked him to send me an email with the details. He earlier had given me the choice to travel to Malaysia to handle this or we could do it electronically. Later I got a text from her saying she ended her appointment and was returning home, she said she was so stressed. That is when I started doing some searching on the internet. I went to Malaysia country specific information on: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_960.html#entry_requirements

Scams: A large number of U.S. citizens are victims of scams originating in Malaysia. Scammers and confidence artists contact U.S. citizens through the internet, including dating websites. Scammers almost always pose as U.S. citizens who have unexpectedly experienced a medical, legal, financial or other type of “emergency” in Malaysia and who ask the U.S. citizen in the United States to send money quickly to Malaysia. Co-conspirators pose as Malaysian “lawyers” or medical professionals to verify the story and the supposed urgent need for cash. We strongly urge U.S. citizens in the United States to be very cautious about sending money to people you have not met in person and who claim to be U.S. citizens in trouble in Malaysia. If you are scammed and wish to make a formal complaint, the nearest Malaysian embassy or consulate in the U.S. will accept it (in person or via e-mail) and transmit to the police for follow-up. For additional information on these types of scams, see the Department of State's publication, International Financial Scams.

This is the email I got from him and later he called me to confirm I received it.

TO THE ATTENTION OF MR XXX,
WE HAVE FINISH FROM THE MEETING NOW SO SHE IS ON HER WAY HOME AND LIKE I PROMISE TO SEND YOU AN EMAIL OF WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT.
BEFORE WE CAN START THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE FUNDS, WE MUST HAVE 3 DOCUMENTS TO SHOW FOR IT AND THE NAMES OF THE DOCUMENTS ARE AS BELOW
1,INSURANCE CERTIFICATE
2,NON- RESIDENTIAL CERTIFICATE
3, AFFIDAVIT OF CLAIM
AND LIKE I SAID THE COST OF THE 3 CERTIFICATE IS GOING TO COST $4,000.00 SO IF YOU ARE WILLING IN TO HELP HER GET THE FUNDS, KINDLY SEND YOUR FULL BANKING DETAILS TO MY EMAIL AT ONCE.
IF YOU ARE WILLING TO HELP HER FOOT THE BILLS OF THE $4,000 GET BACK TO ME SO AS TO SEND YOU THE DETAILS ON HOW TO SEND THE MONEY.
REGARDS, PETER CHAN

How she carried this out is Academy Award winning performance. This is how convincing she was:
- We had conversations about her daily activities and plans when she was in Florida.
- She talked about relocating to Arizona.
- Gained my trust and exchanged personal histories and experiences.
- When she was in Florida, she was happy and cheerful every day.
- Exchanged emotions and plans for our future together. (There was no way I could tell she was faking) I heard so much sincerity in her voice and sighs.
- She told me that when she comes to see me in Arizona, we will search for a larger house to buy.
- After arriving in Malaysia, she had a very hard time adjusting to the time difference. I would call her between 7 and 9am (Her time) and she had a hard time waking up. She had much stress because of her mission to collect her inheritance. So much stress finding a place to live.

Like I said before, She was so convincing, She built a real relationship with me over these last two months.
Right now I am having a difficult time distinguishing what is reality and what is not.

The mystery I keep thinking about is. Is it possible for her to have a florida phone number that is somehow forwarded to Malaysia?
Or was she really in Florida when I was calling her Florida phone number? Domestic American ring tone. Florida time zone.
Later when I called her Malaysian phone number, I got that different foreign ring tone.
Anyone have an idea?

Most likely it is a redirect number.

I wonder if someone in Malaysia can redirect a Florida phone number?
When I would call the Florida number, it had an American ring tone.
Many times I would have to leave a message on an old style analog answering machine.
I never got that when I called her Malaysian cell phone.

If they faked this somehow, they did such a good job, it convinced me 99%.
I swear I was talking to someone in Florida with a three hour difference time zone.

This is why I still have the doubt whether she was real or fake.

There are several companies on the net where you can set up a redirect number. Below is just one.

Do a Google search and you will find many more.
