I wanted to ask your opinion on contacting this company. they would charge $340.00 to find out if this Jeff Smith was real or if it was a scam. I did go to the website you recommended and filed a complaint with the scamreport@fraudaid.com. What do you think.

Thank you for your help. I found him on other scam sites when I put in his email address. Same bio - same lines. It is amazing how much it was like what I went through. Anyway, I want to thank all of your efforts. Thanks

ROFL!!!

I have come to know "him" as Andy Murphy, from CA. Working off the coast of Scotland on an oil rig. Didn't care to discuss the condition of oil in the US, however......Met him on OKCupid, as did another member posting on this board who knows "him" as Mike Simpson. Looks like they are all the same scammer.

The multiple people concept is interesting. I was definitely wondering about the grammar - I toted it up to alcohol...lol Your explanation makes a lot of sense. You could definitely tell they were talking to other people at the same time, at least sometimes.

I, too, hang around to try to find out what they're after. Usually they leave me before we get that far, but this "guy" is persistent! I've even openly confronted him, even with some of his "code names". He sticks by his story. I think "he's" as stubborn as my kids say i am....lol

How can we make people on these dating sites more aware? This is the 3rd time in about 8 months I've been contacted by spammers on the 2 dating sites I'm on. I guess I'm just that lovable that so many guys fall in love with me just by my picture = 54 yo, arthritis and a 2 yo grandson I'm raising..... YEAH, tell me another story!!!!

Have you contact the dating sites to let them know about the scammers? Do these sites have any warning posted on their sites? To start with, you could encourage them to do that, or to add a warning in any "Welcome" email that they send out to members when they join up.

Post subject:  Re:POF scam Murphy Jones Import Export of Cars

I recently met a man that has tried to prove to me he is the man of my dreams. His alleged name is Murphy_Jones and I met him on Plenty of Fish dot com. I received an instant message from him, and within 2 days he was in love with me. He told me he worked in the self employment field of the importation and exportation. He also tells me he has 12 year old son named "Nelson", who by the way lost his mother yesterday. She supposedly died in Nigeria, and he Murphy and his son are headed there on a flight today. They fly out of Maine at 11:00. I had never given it much thought that he writing style changes depending on which time of day. He has refused to give me any contact information, he only communicates through Yahoo! chat. Murphy has a picture of a handsome 50's ish man. He tried once to get me to send 50 dollars to him his ATM card not working he said. Now he says he will send me an ATM card so that I can receive his money from his "clients" while he is in Nigeria for 3 weeks cause of his son's mothers funeral. When I told him I would not deposit nor wire any monies to him, he got very indignant. The man claimed I had broken his heart, and claimed that I was playing games with him and all he wanted was long term relationship and I lead him on. Eventually he got over it, and continued the conversation. I plan on calling State Police in Maine with what ever items he may send me, but as of yet I have not received any emails or other types of contact, he refuses says he will call when he gets to Nigeria, which makes no sense where I am in Maine and supposedly he is in Maine also. Just watch out folks, they are changing their story. Luckily no monies have been sent and I smelled a rat!
