As an victim advocate I just heard of a case where ... hang onto your britches people ... the scammers are network marketing in snail mail fake Spain lottery letters.

Yes they are using the postal service and even so bold as to have the victim tell family and friends!

Nigeria is going MLM God Help Us All!

Yesterday we received a Cashier's Check for $7,500.00. It was drawn off of First Federal Savings Bank in Twin Falls, Idaho. The envelope had a Canadian stamp and the "letter" from Worldwide Lottery had an address of 3714 Winona Blvd Rochester, NY (which didn't exist). The return address label was from GH Inc., also supposedly in Rochester. Also on the cashiers check it said REMITTER: CAPITAL INVESTMENT GROUP. I sent an e-mail to the First Federal Savings Bank in Twin Falls and they wrote back that it was a scam.

Below is what the letter says:

We are pleased to inform you of the result of the Lottery Winners International programs held on the 5/05/2005 Ticket number EL-23133 with serial number EL-123542, batch number: EL-35 lottery ref. number:EL-9318. You have therefore been approved for a lump sum pay out of US $62,000.00 (SIXTY TWO THOUSAND US DOLLARS)!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as u receive this letter, please call 1-800-936-0169 and ask for Mr. Scott Walker, Investment and Securities Manager or Linda Foster your claim agent.

BOND MUST BE PAID FOR THESE FUNDS! FROM OUR EXPERIENCE, THE BOND FEE IS 5.88%-10% OF THE AWARD OR IN YOUR CASE, $3,650.00-US $6,200.00. WE RECOGNIZE THAT MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT ABLE TO PAY THIS PREMIUM PRIOR TO RECEIVING THEIR AWARDS SO YOU WILL BE ADVANCED APPROXIMATELY $5,000.00-$10,000.00 IF YOU MEET CREDIT REQUIREMENTS.

We ask that you keep your winning information confidential until your claims have been processed and your money Remitted to you. This is part of our security protocol to avoid double claiming and unwarranted abuse of this program by some participants.

This program takes place every year. This lottery was promoted and sponsored by a group of successful lottery corporations. We hope with part of your winning you will take part in our next draw for US 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS!!!

Sincerely,

Daniel Burris,
President & CEO

Had we not been alert and skeptical to begin with, we might have gotten taken. We did a lot of research last night and if we would have been foolish enough to send them anything we would have been stuck because the check would have bounced. I always though cashiers checks are like cash, but THEY ARE NOT!!!! The cashiers check looked pretty real.

The elderly and the naive are the ones who are going to get took on this. I just got off the phone with the secret service and these scum can basically do whatever they want. There is no protection for people from trash garbage like this. If you speed, you get a ticket. If you rip people off - oh well - too bad.

PLEASE BEWARE and tell everyone you know to be very careful out there. It's become a vicious world!!!
