I know that most of the scammers are based in Nigeria, but i am wondering if they have real people here in the US helping them get away with this fraud, does any one know?

Yes they do . And in some time's they use a victim to scam other's .

I HAVE WONDERED IF the Nigerians have contacts within U.S. Banks that help them locate potential victims. They seem to look for people with long term bank accounts and relationships....

They have accomplices everywhere, in banks, in check cashing stores, in stores , anywhere where they can get information and account numbers. They also go out and intercept mail, dumpster dive for information etc.

Yes there is a known gang cell in Atlanta GA area as well as in other big cities in the US.
