im looking for some help, my friend here at work was involved in a scam were a women from france sent him a check for 400,000. the check cleared in two days and she asked him to send it back to him because she had to pay tax's on the money she recieved (she said she recieved 1,000,000) so after the bank said it cleared he wired her the money, only to find out the check was counterfiet, leaving him with the bag. i guess im looking for numbers for him to call, or information on how he may get out of paying back this large amount of money.

Have him contact his local Secret Servce right away, Have him bring all emails, phone numbers anything he has on this person. Did he check on the wire? He can call Western Union and find out where it was ACTUALLY picked up from, my guess is it was picked up in Nigeria and not France. That information will be helpful to the secret servce as well. He may want to contact 419leagal.com or fraudaid.com at this point. This is one of the biggest amounts of money I have seen someone lose on this board.
Since his bank cleared the check are they taking any responsibility?

Then go to http://scamvictimsunited.com/resources_ ... _check.htm and send that letter to every place on that list. I would also suggest sending that letter to the media to try and get even more attention to this scam and your case.

If it was $400,000 the Secret Service would probably look into it, the dollar amt of the loss is surely high enough.

Anthony I want you to PM me with a way to contact you, I may have some people who can help you out with this issue. This definately deserves immediate and strong attention that is a huge chunk of change. BTW what bank was stupid enough to just fork over 400k like that without questioning it?
