Recently I went into Marshland Credit Union in Brunswick GA and noticed big plexi glass holders at each teller's window with a warning about counterfeit check scams and how to tell if you may be holding a counterfeit check! Kudos Marshland for a job well done, I only wish more banks would be so caring and concerned and post warnings such as this. The information was right on the head and very informational. I can truly say that after reading that warning if anyone deposits a counterfeit check it truly would be the consumer's fault, the statement made was in detail and very educational.

I'm not sure if Shawn would allow this but could you get a copy of that and post it on here? Maybe if people from here took a copy of it to the local banks around where they live and ask them to print copys of it and put it at the counters that would help spread the word a bit.

Thanks Reverse. I am going to print out a few and take them to the bank I go to and ask them to pass it on to all other branches and see if they will post them, or put piles of them out.

That is wonderful!!!!

I agree . . . we should send these out to our local banks, and we can say that this bank is taking steps to protect it's customers, and so should you.

I will try to google that bank later on because I would like to send them something thanking them for being proactive in the fight against scams!

Several of our local financial institutions have these posters displayed.

I suggested it to them though............

Good! I am glad that people are suggesting them and that the banks are taking the hint that their customers want them to help to educate them on these matters.

Funny . . . this was one of the things that I asked "our former bank" to do back when we got hit and they said that there was no need for signs or posters . . . they said that all of the information that a customer needed was in the paperwork that they got when they opened an account.

In all honesty all the information is there, you are responsible for your deposited items, that is the bare bones truth. Does it hurt to emphasize the problem? I think not.

I know that in my case, the bank we were with was a bank that I opened my first checking account with as a teenager. I took all of the information they gave me, I made sure I knew about things like fees for this or that, or if there was a balance I needed to stay above, but I don't remember if I read every word on every page of all of the papers they gave me to take home . . . I was a teenager, I wanted to go shopping with those new checks! And even if I had read it all, would I remember it all when I needed it? And really, who goes and pulls out the info for an account that they opened 10 or 15 years ago and says "I should really re-read all of that info"

This will put the info that you need in the place that you need it in order to make you aware of the scams that are out there. Yes, to some it may seem like the "Caution! Hot beverage!" warnings on coffee cups, but we have those on everything now too, so why not this.

Where do you live? Is he in prison now or did the bank just tell you that they will be pressing charges and that he could face up to that amount of time?

Also, please read the info on this page if you have not yet done so
