I am a fraud investigator for a bank, I give public workshops on a regular basis. I also lead a financial group of the local banks and law enforcement, I am doing my part in South Texas

Well then thank you for doing your part, I'm glad to be in the company with others who take this as seriously as I do. I'll look for that seminar in June however I will be in Las Vegas the last week of June for a meeting with people out there who are working to prevent cyber stalking of children another one of my passions. Kudos to you and keep up the good work! Our effort are not in vain.

many of the counterfeit checks are coming in at the $3900 range now. Since we started verifying the larger checks.

And I guess we should all look at that as one possitive step . . . people are not out $8000+ like we were when we got hit . . . at least the amounts lost are getting smaller. Baby steps in the right direction.

Also, are you doing any seminars up my direction? (Minnesota) I would LOVE to join forces with you on these.

Shawn I do all my workshops locally in the South Texas area, the seminar I am attending in Orlando will deal with ACH fraud, a form of electronic fraud. As paper checks become less popular electronic fraud will blossom.

Now that's a scary thought! I would also be very interested in hearing about this. If you would please post the date here when you find out what it is, if I'm here I'd like to attend.

I am going to post that link in the Announcement section. It might even be nice to have a entire section deticated to announcing seminars and other forms of training.

What do you guys think?

Sounds good, but that training I am attending is kind of pricey. Why don't each of us keep an eye out for local free training, and post them here?

Excellent idea from both of you! These seminars like that last one I was just at in Orlando was perfect especially for the lay person to learn about all kinds of scams and how not to become a victim. I only wish there were a lot more of them around. But maybe now that people are finally getting together and getting these seminars going, they'll grow in popularity and we can finally take a bite out of this problem by educating a mass number of people at a time. We are also going to try and get it into the schools and propose to make it either a class or some sort of meeting or assembly. I think if we can educate them while they are in school, they'll be less like to fall for these scams once they are out in the real world.
