I've just found out today that I was scammed over the sale of my motorcycle. I accepted a cashiers check in the amount of $7200 from "John Martinez" last tuesday, depositied it the following day, and was informed today it was counterfeit. My question is, this was basically theft, and should my insurance company take care of it? Has anyone had any luck with this? |

Even if you did hand over the bike to the fraudster, and not just sent him money, most motorcycle insurance policies do not cover you for this loss - you gave the bike away. If you just sent the fraudster money, then you still won't be covered - you still have the bike, it's the money you've lost, not the bike. |

The bike is gone. He showed up here at my home, and took the bike for a test ride. He signed the bill of sale, gave me the check, and left with the bike. I kept the title, and told him I would mail it to him when it cleared. The police depot. says that it's not considered theft, because I handed him the keys. I just pray my insurance company doesn't say the same thing. |

You gave the bike away, and were negligent in not verifying the authenticity of the check before releasing the bike to the 'buyer'. Sorry, but I don't think your insurance will cover you here. |

I do not think your motorcycle insurance policy will cover any loss due to fraud. However if you have a homeowners or renters policy.Call your agent and/or check the coverages.Most insurance companys will cover 500.00 upto 1000.00 for fraud. Not much but at least it's something. |
