I got involved in what was an overseas job offer scam. I was Skeptical so I took the cashiers check and went to the issuing bank branch. I asked them twice to verify the check I was told they did and they cashed it. Note: I am not a customer at this bank. Thinking now maybe it wasn't a scam I wired the money Western Union. Since my email contact has disappeared and I am sure the bank messed up and the check was counterfeit. I called the bank to explain it and all they could say is wait . 5 days has gone by and not a word from the bank.Has something like this happened to anyone else out there? If so what can I expect and what was the outcome?

If the issuing bank cashed it, they should be out the money. Did you have to give them any contact information? If not, since you are not a customer of their bank I do not really see how they could track you down to try and collect the money. Please let us know if you ever hear anything from them.

I agree with admin, if you took the check to the issuing bank and they cashed it, they are out the money, they did not follow their own procedures

Yes I did post this on Bankersonline board,Free legal advice board, and I emailed as many agencies and organizations as I could only to prove that I was in no way aware I was involved with this scam.

It has been twenty three days since the bank cashed the check and I have not heard a word from the bank. They have my drivers license number also I called the Washington Mutual bank branch and explained what happened. A rep. took my name and phone number and said the manager will call me.The manager never called back. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to hear back from the bank? or can I pretty much assume at this point the bank is assuming the liability(as they should) and keeping it hush.

It took 90 days for a check to return to my bank from Canada. This was a stolen/altered check. The Canadian Bank filed a claim against my bank. We had to make the amount good. Banks are very slow.

Banks are very slow. A little different here, he cashed it at the "issuing" bank. The check should have rejected right away

I have to agree, that is pure neglegence on the issuing banks part and this one I would fight. You may try calling an attorney that deals with corporate financial institutions ask that person how you can fight this.
